Andre Pleau was born in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec in 1950. A self-taught artist, he developed a passion for drawing, visual arts and nature at a very young age. A source of inspiration for much of his artwork are memories from childhood trips with his parents, discovering the Gaspe coast, the regions north of Joliette, St. Tite, and La Tuque.
Andre approaches the blank canvas with all his emotion and a palette knife, creating thick swipes of color onto the canvas. He works with radical and spontaneous gesture, embracing the impulses of the moment and disregarding the aid of an outline or plan. Once the piece is finished, it is with the same small palette knife, that he lines the painting from side to side leaving on its surface the shadow of a newly emerging painting.
Andre is a physically active man. Among his accomplishments, he has competed many times in canoe racing, including the prestigious Classique Internationale de Canots de le Maurice and has brought home two Gold Medals from the Montreal International Marathon. Today, he is still a regular at the local hockey rink.
Andre has received several awards and prizes for his artwork and his paintings are featured in public and private collections.
The Plaza Galleries is proud to present the fine art of Andre Pleau.
